Living Close To The Ground

Regardless of who we are or where we live, the Creation calls to us.

I have noticed that when a young boy (or Girl) grow up living close to the ground,i.e...close to nature..he or she usually becomes a more stable productive member of society. Let me explain what I mean.

For a young one,...living in a large metropolis can have its advantages,..for example..the convenience of having schools nearby, transportation, stores, parks and plenty of kids to play with! These conveniences can have a positive influence on a youth...or it can have a negative if not a disastrous affect that can taint a heart and mind. In my experience, the factor that determines which traits a boy/girl will develop..regardless of where he lives...depends mostly if not wholly on the care and nurturing of loving parents..BOTH of them! This by no way means that young ones are doomed to failure just because they live in a big city. Like I said..it all depends on family structure, support and most importantly..the moral values instilled in the young ones heart and mind. So depending on the type of moral upbringing a child receives..it is quite possible for a young one to withstand and overcome the pressures and corrupting influences of a big city. My point is this... living close to the ground and away from the frenetic and fast paced lifestyle of the large city can serve as a protection for our youth. I recall a while back we had some friends visit us from the Los Angeles area and I remember one of our visitors saying "Wow" as she looked into the night sky " I have never seen so many stars in my whole life"...and I began to think..A person can live his whole life in the big city and never get to see the true wonders of creation the way we do here..away from the smog and light pollution that plaques so many large cities.
I recall reading about a study conducted a few years back which looked into the question of why there is so much crime in the big cities..especially among young ones. They wanted to examine the causes of why so many youth turn to substance abuse, gangs, violence and other self districting behavior...and one of the reasons the study sites was this...they found that when young ones are deprived of contact with nature..i.e. starry nights, mountain streams, the silence of a forest, the meditative stillness and beauty of the desert floor and of course the awesomeness of our animal kingdom....When these wonders of nature are not part of a youths life experiences..then this leaves a tremendous vacuum in the heart and mind of our youth which leaves them exposed to the day to day survival of the fittest mentality in an "unjust world"...That tranquil, calming and self reflection one experiences in nature has absolutely no influence in someone who has never partaken of its wonders. Basically what the study concluded was that a boy/girl need that connection with the natural world in order to develop good character traits and a balanced and positive outlook on life...I agree!!

I believe that it is important to help our children (and grand children) develop good social skills that can help them interact and contribute to a stable society..and one way to do that is to expose them to the beauty and wonder of Creation.
Of course this is not the only reason for self destructive behavior in our youth. Later I will ramble about others issues affecting our youth ..stay tuned !
